5 Things that Makes Me Angry about the World

This is the first day of a seven day writing challenge that I’m doing from a movement called Live Your Legend. In an effort to inspire the practice of writing, today’s topic was a question about what makes you angry about the World. The world in and of its self is a majestic, awe inspiring and amazing planet. I’ve been fortunate enough to have traveled extensively to see many different places and to meet many incredible people. The landscape and cultures have such diversity that I’ve been personally transformed into a better human as a result. So, I’m not really angry at the world per se. I think the better question is what some people in the world do that makes me angry.

Here goes:

1. No Driving Respect on the Road

Traffic is definitely getting worse everywhere in the world. Congested motorways. Construction projects. Accidents. Weather. All incur driving delays. Blood pressures rise. Blasting horns when the vehicle in front of you isn’t moving fast enough. Ignoring everyone behind you by refusing to move over into a slower lane. Not using a turn signal. Cutting in front of a long line of waiting cars. Texting on your phone behind the wheel.

1 out of every 4 car accidents in the United States is caused by texting and driving.

It is very much every person for themselves. It makes me angry that common courtesy when driving has been lost in the World.

2. Caring too much about being a Celebrity

It doesn’t really matter what the Kardashian’s are doing today. Or if Jay Z’s and Bey’s twins are out of the hospital. Or if Prince Harry is going to marry his girlfriend. Who really cares? But more and more celebrity filled content clogs the internet. With the rise of social media, everyone can become a YouTube, Instagram or Snapchat celebrity. Even bloggers and vloggers can too. The measure of celebrity success is in how many views your content has and if it has gone “viral”. Everyone desires to be valued. I’m not sure that being known for doing something stupid like having a firecracker exploded in your ass is the best use of your celebrity. It makes me angry that World wastes their precious time on celebrating celebrity. Life is really too short for it.

3. Human Trafficking

Did you know that every 30 seconds a child is sold into sex slavery?

There are more than 45 million people who are slaves today and only 1% ever get rescued.

Human trafficking is fueled by a demand for cheap labor, services, and for commercial sex. In the U.S., California, Texas and Florida rank as the top three states in human trafficking. A majority of victims are trafficked through the course of domestic work or within hotel- or motel-based employment. Family friendly vacation spot Orlando has one of the highest problems of human trafficking in the U.S. It’s the city’s dirty little secret that no one talks about so that tourism or the Mouse doesn’t get hurt by the negative publicity. We all think that this is an international problem but it’s a big one right here in the U.S. on our doorstep. It makes me angry that the world tolerates slavery by ignoring its existence.

4. Greed

We are all constantly inundated with the need to have more. More money. More clothes. A better car. A bigger house. More education. A better job. While none of these are bad motivations, it can drive bad behaviors. We are judged on how successful we are based on the items we have accumulated. It makes me angry that the world now values things more than people.

5. Politics

[noun] “the activities associated with the governance of a country or other area, especially the debate or conflict among individuals or parties having or hoping to achieve power.”

Achieving power. That’s what it’s all about. Every debate and conflict is just a power struggle. The need to be right. How many friendships, jobs, wars, and lives have been lost over the need to be right? What makes anyone’s thoughts, opinions or values better or right over someone else’s? Since we all live in societies, we feel that everyone should share the same ideas on what makes up our collective identity. When they don’t, then we fight for power to make our ideas the right ones that everyone else should obey. It makes me angry that the world would rather be right than being at peace.

Conclusion

Though these are five things that make may make me angry, I don’t think that they are things that should necessarily make the dear reader angry or even agree with. I do believe that this world is an amazing place and that there are more good people than bad. I just wish that we would all take a bit more time to be kind in all that we do. We could change the world into a kinder place.
